Dr. Fola David, a Nigerian doctor and visual artist, has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest drawing by an individual. His monumental artwork spans an impressive 850 square meters, eclipsing the previous record of 629.98 square meters set by Ravi Soni of India.
Guinness World Records noted that Ravi Soni established his record on 30 November 2021 at Maharana Bhupal Stadium in India, marking the 12th successful attempt according to their records. Undeterred by the existing achievement, Dr. David expanded his artwork to an even larger canvas of 1,000 square meters, further solidifying his place in history.
Titled “Unity in Diversity,” Dr. David’s drawing celebrates the diverse ethnic groups of Nigeria, showcasing their distinctive attire, languages, culture, and artistic expressions. His accomplishment has garnered widespread recognition and support, with celebrities, dignitaries, and prominent figures visiting him during his artistic marathon at Onikan Stadium in Lagos. Among the notable visitors was Hilda Baci, a renowned Nigerian chef and Guinness World Record holder herself, who provided encouragement and supplies to support Dr. David’s endeavor.
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi and other dignitaries also attended the event, commending Dr. David for his creativity and perseverance. President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed their pride and admiration for Dr. David’s achievement, highlighting its significance in showcasing Nigeria’s extraordinary talents and cultural richness on a global stage.
