Hilltop Boarding Kennels recently won the prestigious ‘Kennels of the Year’ award at the Local Pet Awards. The family-run business, led by Pamela Weir and her daughter Natalie, has also earned regional honors over the past two years. However, this year marked the first time the award was open across all of Scotland, officially recognizing Hilltop as the best in the country.
Pamela expressed her surprise and gratitude at the win. “We could not believe that it had happened again,” she said. “We are so proud and grateful. There are many great kennels out there, so being chosen as the best means a lot to us.”
She credited their loyal customers for the success. “Our customers have become friends. We’ve built strong relationships and they trust us with their pets. We wouldn’t have won these awards without them.”
Since opening seven years ago, Pamela and Natalie have developed a loyal client base. Pamela believes the personal touch is what sets them apart. “Small things like keeping owners updated with videos and photos mean so much to them. They always tell us how much we’ve made them feel cared for.”
The kennel is a small operation run mostly by Pamela and Natalie, with occasional help from a team member named Gio. “Natalie works incredibly hard and deserves as much credit as I do,” Pamela said. “We treat every dog like our own because that’s what owners deserve when they trust us.”
Security upgrades include CCTV cameras in every kennel, which help provide peace of mind for both Pamela and pet owners. Although expansion is possible, Pamela prefers to keep the kennels small. “If we grew bigger, it would mean less time with each dog, and we’d have to hire more staff. That would change the personal care we provide, and we don’t want that right now.”
The kennel is already taking bookings for next year, with Pamela encouraging loyal customers to secure their spots early.
