A Sheffield restaurant has earned national recognition after securing a spot in the prestigious National Restaurant Awards. The awards, which have been running since 2007, recognize the best dining establishments in the UK, with a panel of over 200 food experts, including chefs, restaurateurs, and food writers, making the decisions.
This year, JÖRO, located in Oughtibridge, ranked 43rd on the list, making it the only Sheffield restaurant to earn a place in the top 100. The restaurant, owned by husband-and-wife team Luke French and Stacey Sherwood-French, originally opened in 2016 in a shipping container complex at Shalesmoor, near the city’s trendy Kelham Island area.
The couple’s move to a larger venue at a former paper mill near Oughtibridge in 2024 allowed them to expand their operations and explore a modern tasting menu with Asian influences. Despite their growth, the original location remains open under the street food brand, Konjo.
Alongside their position in the top 100, JÖRO was also nominated for the ‘Opening of the Year’ and ‘Restaurateurs of the Year’ awards, although they did not win in these categories.
The restaurant celebrated the achievement with a post on social media, expressing their excitement and gratitude. “We are over the moon to be listed at number 43, what an achievement for us after six months in our new home,” the post said. “Being in a room filled with incredible people from across the industry is truly inspiring, and being listed is something our younger selves dreamed of achieving.”
The recognition marks a significant milestone for the restaurant and its owners, who continue to push the boundaries of modern cuisine while celebrating their roots in Sheffield.
