A new report by VisaGuide.World has identified the best destinations for digital nomads in 2025, highlighting countries across Europe, the Caribbean, North America, and the Middle East. The Digital Nomad Index ranks countries using six key factors: cost of living, internet speed, quality of healthcare, taxation policies, minimum income required for visa eligibility, and tourist popularity. This combination reflects what remote workers seek—affordable living, reliable infrastructure, and accessible visa options.
Topping the list is Spain, praised for its strong healthcare system, reasonable living costs, and popularity among tourists. However, Spain’s internet speed is average, and its visa demands a monthly income exceeding €2,140, one of the highest thresholds on the list. The United Arab Emirates ranks highly as well, boasting the fastest internet speeds and no taxes on digital nomads. Still, a minimum monthly income of over €5,000 may limit eligibility for some.
Montenegro is gaining traction for its low taxes, absence of income requirements, and affordable living, though its internet speed remains a concern. The Bahamas also scores favorably despite lower ratings in internet and healthcare quality, thanks to no tax obligations and no income threshold for digital nomads.
Hungary offers a balanced option with moderate internet speeds and average tax and income rules. Its lower tourist activity might appeal to those preferring quieter surroundings. Canada welcomes digital nomads without setting a minimum income but applies tax rates between 15 and 33 percent. While it has a strong healthcare system, Canada’s relatively low tourist draw could deter those seeking vibrant social scenes.
Romania stands out for its low taxes, ranging from zero to ten percent, and affordable living costs. It offers a six-month tax-free period but requires a monthly income of €3,300. Portugal provides similar tax relief with quality healthcare and decent internet speeds, although its income threshold is €3,548 per month.
Brazil is attracting more interest with a six-month tax exemption and reasonable living costs, but a high tax rate of 27 percent and a €1,500 monthly income requirement present challenges. Rounding out the top ten is Curaçao, which offers a full visa-free and tax-free period without income requirements. Known for its scenic landscapes and culture, Curaçao remains a popular coastal choice for digital nomads.
As remote work grows globally, this index offers valuable insights for those planning where to live and work in 2025, balancing practical needs with lifestyle preferences.
