Antigua and Barbuda, the twin-island Caribbean destination, has been nominated for the title of Caribbean’s Best Emerging Culinary City Destination 2025 by the World Culinary Awards. This nomination highlights the islands’ growing reputation as a vibrant culinary hotspot on the global stage.
The recognition marks a significant milestone in the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s three-year effort to position the islands as a leading destination for Caribbean culinary tourism. Minister of Tourism Charles Fernandez emphasized the importance of this achievement, saying, “We have long believed that Antigua and Barbuda’s food story is one worth telling – and now, the world is listening. This nomination reflects our rich culinary heritage and celebrates the chefs, farmers, and creatives who shape our national identity through food. We proudly invite the world to taste Antigua and Barbuda.”
A major part of this transformation has been the Antigua and Barbuda Culinary Month initiative. Unlike a typical restaurant week, this month-long event celebrates the islands’ cuisine, culture, and creativity. It includes Restaurant Week, FAB Fest—a lively Food, Art, and Beverage Festival—and Eat Like A Local, a digital directory showcasing certified vendors, food stalls, and authentic dining experiences.
The event also features the Caribbean Food Forum, which gathers chefs, culinary entrepreneurs, and policymakers from across the region to discuss the future of Caribbean cuisine, food security, and innovation. Intimate Chef Events with live cooking demonstrations add to the experience.
Colin C. James, CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, said, “With focused investment in food culture, talent development, and experiences, Antigua and Barbuda has evolved from being known for its 365 beaches to a destination offering 365 flavors and counting.”
Shermain Jeremy, Culinary Month Lead, called the nomination “deeply rewarding.” She explained, “Culinary Month is about more than food. It’s about identity, pride, and opportunity. We’ve built something rooted in culture and powered by the community—from passionate chefs and mixologists to small roadside vendors—and we’re just getting started.”
Jeremy also encouraged everyone to support the islands by voting in the competition. Voting is open until August 15, 2025, and Antigua and Barbuda is urging food lovers, fans, and members of the diaspora to cast their votes and help the destination’s culinary reputation continue to grow.
