The Dyrt, a popular campground review platform, has announced its 2025 Best Places to Camp Regional Awards after analyzing the most highly rated and positively reviewed campgrounds on its site. The rankings are divided by region, including Central, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, Pacific, and Southeast areas.
In the Central region, Stella Mare RV Resort in Texas secured the No. 6 spot. Located roughly 250 miles from San Antonio, the coastal campground is about a four-hour drive from the city. With 195 RV sites close to the beach, Stella Mare is a family-friendly destination that allows pets and offers a variety of amenities. Nightly rates at the resort range from \$39 to \$598.
The resort provides high-speed Wi-Fi, 30-50-amp service, two dog parks, barbecue grills, a heated outdoor pool, a splash pad, a hot tub, and a 3,000-square-foot observation deck. Weekly scheduled activities include crafts, bingo, and other family-oriented events. One long-time visitor described the campground as well maintained, with a friendly staff and regular events for both children and adults, such as candy bar bingo, s’mores nights, and golf cart parades.
Also featured in the Central region rankings is Neches Bluff Overlook Campground in the Davy Crockett National Forest, which placed eighth. About 280 miles northeast of San Antonio, this free campground offers a more rugged experience. It is a primitive site with minimal amenities, so campers must come prepared. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and visitors are encouraged to explore the area on their own terms.
Reviewers highlighted the scenic beauty of Neches Bluff, particularly its panoramic forest views. One camper described hiking along a nearby creek, discovering a spring, and using the natural water source during their stay. The experience was described as peaceful and authentic, with the natural surroundings offering an ideal setting for a memorable camping trip.
The Dyrt’s top 10 Central region campgrounds include destinations across several states, with the top spot going to The Wall in South Dakota. Other notable locations in the top five include Scoria Pit and Buffalo Gap in the Dakotas, Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park Campground in North Dakota, and Big Pine Campground in South Dakota. Texas had two entries in the top ten, demonstrating the state’s diverse camping options ranging from beachside resorts to forested hideaways.
