WalletHub released a report on Tuesday naming Provo the best-run city in America. The report ranked 148 of the largest U.S. cities based on their operating efficiency and local leadership effectiveness.
Provo’s mayor, Michelle Kaufusi, said she learned of the ranking early Tuesday and was so excited she was “jumping up and down” in her kitchen. She called the recognition an honor and credited the city team and residents for making Provo a special place to live.
The ranking evaluated cities using 36 key performance indicators across six service categories. These indicators were also compared to each city’s total per capita budget.
Provo came in first overall, a result that Kaufusi says shows the city is doing something right. She said the city focuses on getting the basics right, including quality schools, safe neighborhoods, well-maintained roads, and responsible budgeting.
