McGill Plant Science students Henry Cordoba Novoa and Mason Jackson earned top honours at the National Association of Plant Breeding Conference held in Hawaii from May 19 to 23, 2025.
Cordoba Novoa took first place in the Ph.D. poster competition for his research on enhancing the understanding and breeding of common beans. His work focused on using multiple genome-wide approaches and studying how deleterious mutations accumulate in breeding populations.
Jackson secured second place in the Master’s poster competition with his research on developing drone technology to improve the accuracy of yield trials in dry beans.
Both students are under the supervision of Professor Valerio Hoyos-Villegas.
