A Mexican restaurant in Dearborn has set a new world record for its selection of spirits. M Cantina, located at 13214 Michigan Avenue, earned the Guinness World Record for offering the largest variety of agave spirits available commercially in a restaurant.
The restaurant, owned by Chef Junior Merino, was officially recognized on June 10 for having 1,825 bottles of 100% agave spirits. Chloe McCarthy, the official Guinness World Records adjudicator, certified the record after verifying each bottle’s availability. She praised the quality of the spirits and said that Junior’s efforts help change the misconception that tequila is hard to process or causes illness.
This achievement surpasses the previous record of 1,033 bottles, set in 2024 by a restaurant in New Jersey.
M Cantina’s collection includes tequilas, mezcals, raicillas, bacanoras, sotols, and other rare agave-based spirits. Merino, also known as “The Liquid Chef,” is recognized by the Mexican government as an Official Ambassador of Gastronomy and Tourism and a promoter of Mexican beverages. He spent years traveling through Mexico to find rare spirits to add to the collection.
“Achieving this record is an honor,” Merino said. “It inspires us to continue exploring and celebrating Mexico’s vibrant spirit culture while helping Americans understand that Mexican food and beverage is rich and valuable.”
A representative from the Mexican state of Jalisco was present during the certification. Giovanni Alcala said, “Jalisco is one of the biggest producers of tequila. I am proud of Junior’s work for the Mexican community. He is helping promote agave spirit beverages.”
