DULUTH, Minn. — A student from Duluth Denfeld High School is making history on the stage. On Wednesday, Hennepin Arts announced the nominees for the 2024-25 Spotlight Education Jimmy Awards. Reagan Kern, a senior at Duluth Denfeld, was named Minnesota’s Best Actress. She will represent the state as the nominee for Best Actress at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Jimmy Awards.
Kern earned the Triple Threat Award in 2024 for her role as Elle Woods in the school’s production of *Legally Blonde*. This is the first time a student from Duluth has received the title of Minnesota’s Best Actress and been chosen as the state’s nominee for the Jimmy Awards.
The Jimmy Awards celebrate the achievements of high school students in musical theatre, highlighting their talent and promoting the value of theatre education in schools. Each year, two nominees from local regional contests are invited to New York City for an intensive program. This includes coaching, training, and rehearsals led by top Broadway professionals.
This year, the nominees will spend ten days in New York City from June 13 to June 24. The 16th annual Jimmy Awards ceremony will be held on June 23 at the Minskoff Theatre.
