Bangkok has been named the top city worldwide for remote work, according to a recent study by QR Code Generator, a company specializing in QR code technology. The study rated cities based on internet speed, availability of remote work visas, and cost of living. Each city was scored on a scale from 0 to 100.
Bangkok led the list with a score of 69.98. The city was praised for its fast mobile internet, affordable cost of living, and vibrant cultural scene. Its mix of modern and traditional life, busy street culture, delicious food, and beautiful temples make it a favorite among digital nomads.
Following Bangkok, Bucharest, Romania ranked second with a score of 65.62. Bucharest stood out for its easy remote work visas, ample green spaces, and rich art and architecture. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil took third place with a score of 62.35, benefiting from strong local purchasing power.
Buenos Aires, Argentina ranked fourth, known for being one of the most affordable cities worldwide for groceries and dining. Beijing, China rounded out the top five, praised for its high-speed broadband and mobile networks that ensure reliable global connectivity.
Reacting to the rankings, Sasikarn Watthanachan, spokesperson for the Thai government, highlighted Thailand’s new “Thai Tourist Visa.” The visa aims to attract foreigners who want to combine travel with remote work or cultural and medical activities.
Watthanachan also noted that Thailand is expanding its visa-free program to 93 countries and regions, allowing visitors to stay for up to 60 days. This move is part of ongoing efforts to boost tourism and attract more remote workers to the country.
