AUSTIN (KXAN/NEXSTAR) — If you’re on the hunt for the best barbecue in the U.S., Texas is the place to be, according to a new Yelp ranking.
Yelp recently released its list of the “Top 10 Cities for BBQ in the USA,” and two Texas cities—Austin and San Antonio—claimed the top spots.
Austin, ranked No. 1, earned high marks for its abundance of barbecue restaurants, consumer interest, and strong reviews. Popular spots like Franklin Barbecue, Terry Black’s Barbecue, Micklethwait Craft Meat, and the Michelin-starred La Barbecue were all highlighted. Reviewers praised Austin’s barbecue for its “simple yet flavorful” seasonings.
“Austin has earned its reputation as a top barbecue destination,” Yelp’s announcement said.
San Antonio followed closely behind, securing the No. 2 position. The city was recognized for its mix of traditional and fusion barbecue joints, with notable mentions including Reese Bros BBQ, BBQ Smoke Shack, and Garcia Barbecue.
In third place was Kansas City, Missouri, known for its burnt ends and distinctive Kansas City-style barbecue sauce.
Yelp’s rankings were based on three key factors: consumer interest in barbecue, the number of barbecue restaurants, and the average rating of those restaurants. The platform also limited each state to two cities to maintain geographic diversity.
